Embracing Remote and Hybrid Work: Keys to Success

It's been three years since the pandemic turned Zoom, Teams, and the occasional Google Meets calls into our everyday routine. However, remote work remains a point of discussion. Many workplaces are still trying to find the perfect balance. Every workplace is unique so what works for one company may not always fit yours when it comes down to it.

If your business has chosen a remote or hybrid environment, here are some ways to take advantage of the flexibility a remote or hybrid environment provides and be successful.

Determine what you are trying to accomplish. As business owners and as humans, you know that goals are best accomplished when you are intentional and set action items to best achieve your goals. So what are you trying to accomplish by providing this flexibility?

Understand your workers and the reasons why they want a remote or hybrid environment. Their life away from work impacts what they need from a work environment. Consider the diverse needs of your team. Some may be new to the MSP field and eager to soak up the knowledge of their coworkers around them. This collaboration is doable remotely, but does not replace the invaluable in person interactions where we get to build relationships with our peers and that over the shoulder mentoring that happens in person.

For parents, their commitments at home sometimes require understanding while they juggle both work and family life. Introverts aren’t to be ignored either, providing a flexible work environment lets them recharge alone in the comfort of their home while working hard remotely. When you understand the unique circumstances, pressures, and responsibilities of members on your team, you can create a flexible work environment that minimizes stress and brings out the best in each person.

For some – they may take their lunch to get in a workout in at their home gym or go for a run. Or they may repurpose their commute time to get their fitness in. This type of activity is much easier to fit in while working from home than in the office. For them it is not about being productive at home, it is just about have a few days hybrid helps them meet their fitness goals.

When it comes to flexibility, it's crucial to incorporate it into your overall plan. Consider the specific type of flexibility that aligns with your company’s goals. It should benefit both employees and employers, promoting productivity, retention, and a positive workplace culture.

By setting goals, conducting regular check-ins, and implementing strategies to assess the effectiveness of your flexible measures, you can ensure long-term success. A flexible workforce that excels in these areas often leads to positive outcomes, so if you're already embracing flexibility like this, you're on the right track to success.
